Get to know Rev. Dave Sison

Birthplace: Quezon City, Philippines

Describe your family: I was born in a family of four; I have an older sister, a twin brother and a younger brother. My sister together with my parents live in Los Angeles, CA; while my twin brother and younger brother together with their family live in the Philippines.

Your Current assignment/Ministry: Chaplain at St Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, NJ

Favorite time of the Liturgical Calendar and Why? Easter because it is the fulfillment of God’s promise to us. It is what our faith is all about, the Resurrection and Eternal life with God. On the side note, I like the Easter flowers that we use to decorate our Church altars.

Who is your favorite Saint and Why? St Anthony, Patron of Loss things and a powerful preacher of the Gospel. I like him because I admire His great love for Jesus and others. (I served for 17 years at St Anthony in Belleville, NJ)

What’s your favorite part of the Catholic Cemeteries ministry?

I like being able to do the committal and offer prayers for the dead, and at the same time, offer consolation to the grieving loved ones.

Why is the Catholic Cemeteries ministry so important to the Catholic Ministry?

I believe it is important because it makes people see that death is not the end…but rather the beginning of a new life. It shows that we must continue to celebrate the life of our deceased loved ones by visiting them and praying for them.
